At our school, we celebrate "Kyoshoku" one day a week, where students experience traditional Japanese school lunches and come together to prepare meals. For one of our classes we made Stone Soup as part of our learning.

This Stone Soup Coloring Sheet Activity allows students to listen to the story while coloring the scene, and reflect on key elements of the tale: the setting, characters, problem, solution, and the lesson.

This hands-on activity encourages students to think about how the characters in the story work together to create something greater than the sum of its parts—just like how we collaborate in the kitchen during Kyoshoku Days. Through making soup together, students learn the value of community, cooperation, and the importance of sharing with others. It’s a fun, educational way to experience both the story and the deeper lessons of togetherness. You can read more about our Soup Days here!
