Neuro-Inclusive Interior Design

As a neuro-inclusive design consultant who is a nurse certified in Neurodiversity Affirming Practice and neurodivergent (Autistic with ADHD), I offer a unique perspective on creating spaces that are both accommodating and stress-reducing for neurodivergent individuals. My expertise allows me to identify subtle design elements that might increase stress—details that could be overlooked by a neurotypical person but can significantly affect behavior.

If you are a parent or business professional looking into how design affects behavior and success, I suggest starting by reading my blog post, "Designing for Every Mind: A Neurodivergent Perspective on Creating Inclusive Spaces" where I take you through a neurodivergent perspective of entering three comparable child therapy spaces and explain why it’s crucial to hire a designer with firsthand experience when creating spaces that ensure comfort for everyone.

The Process:

CONSULTATION / SITE SURVEY

A detailed consultation and site survey is the first step in creating a neuro-inclusive space. During this session, we’ll walk through and then sit down to discuss your current space, your vision, and the specific needs of those who use it. We’ll explore how to make the environment more inclusive by identifying areas where sensory-friendly adjustments, thoughtful layout changes, and calming elements can make a difference. We’ll also discuss your budget and timeframe to ensure the design process aligns with your goals. This is a collaborative conversation aimed at creating a space that feels welcoming and supportive for all neurotypes.

FLOOR PLAN + SCHEMATIC DESIGN

After our initial consultation, I'll take the information gathered and incorporate it into a layout that reflects our neuro-inclusive vision. This includes arranging furniture, selecting textures, and identifying any specific needs based on your home or business requirements and budget.

In the schematic phase, I'll refine the floor plan to align with neuro-inclusive design principles, ensuring the space supports sensory comfort, accessibility, and focus.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

I'll take the insights from the schematics and begin bringing our design to life by incorporating key details into your space. This includes sourcing materials like decor textiles, wall treatments, lighting fixtures, furniture, artwork, and any necessary equipment. To help you visualize your future space, and then bringing your space to life!
