MONTHLY NATURE AND EXPLORATION CLASSES
Join us for our monthly Nature Exploration Class, where children and their families can discover the wonders of 10.5 acres of pristine, well-maintained trails. Our paths wind between two tranquil creek systems—one fed by a spring-fed pond and the other a watershed of the Rappahannock River—offering an ideal setting for both education and adventure. The outdoor classroom includes a picnic table, a mud kitchen, and a swing over a shallow part of our creek.
The trails also follow a historic Civil War route, providing unique opportunities to integrate captivating history lessons into our exploration. We also feature striking rock formations from the Battle Mountain an extinct volcano dating to the Neoproterozoic and is approximately 704 million years old.
Each session will provide children with hands-on opportunities to learn about plant and animal identification, observe seasonal changes in our environment, and keep their own nature journals. This class emphasizes the benefits of learning outdoors, which include enhanced social skills, academic growth, and the development of survival skills through practical experience. Engaging with nature not only fosters creativity but also supports social-emotional learning as children collaborate on imaginative play, build forts and fairy houses, and enjoy structured activities.
Our classes run from 10 am to 12 pm, but families are welcome to stay for as little or as long as they like. During the sessions, we provide restroom facilities and drinking water, and we encourage families to enjoy picnic lunches and snacks on our creek beaches, fostering a sense of community and relaxation.
Come explore, learn, and grow with us as we celebrate the wonders of the natural world! We typically hold them on the last Saturday of each month, this way families can participate together. Note that some dates change for holidays. You can find dates on our Calendar here.
